These are pictures taken by Dr. Ellyn Cavanagh while teaching in Kabul, Afghanistan from July to October, 2003 and February through April, 2004. It is hoped this website will find viewers among the Afghan society but also among citizens of the international communities to bring them to the plight of families in a war-ravaged and poverty-striken country. She returned in August, 2008 to teach in the first national neonatal training course.

Prevention. These children share a garbage dump with two goats - rummaging through for items of interest. This was taken in one of the "better neighborhoods". Opportunities for reliable food sources, education and play areas will prevent the foraging, spread of disease and risk of injury.

Penny, it was fun passing out the lotions - This is Soraya with the village mothers.

This is the triplet family: 10 year-old sister and 3 year-old brother, Mom and grandmother. They brought the babies back to seek assistance with feeding them - same old story - hard economic times, no money to buy formula and mom can't keep up w/ breast-feeding three. $20.00 was donated to grandma, along with a Mormon package of clothing, blankets. If any of you send me money, I will feature the family I give it to. They are VERY appreciative.

Notice the dangling onion. It is a cultural belief that the onion will help resolve the jaundice.

This girl lost both parents and lives with her siblings and aunt. She is beautiful and so very mature - 12 yearts old. I have a close up of her - "Do Good"
