Dr. Cavanagh returns to Afghanistan February 8, 2004. She will add new pictures of the children and families of Kabul.

Ellyn Cavanagh (afghan) > This is young mother is deaf as a result of bombing when she was 5 years old. Despite her disability and illiteracy, her smile and non-verbal communication are incredible. Below is a picture of her baby in the "Afghani net".
Ellyn Cavanagh (afghan) > Notice the dangling onion. It is a cultural belief that the onion will help resolve the jaundice.
Ellyn Cavanagh (afghan) > This is a mother from the Pashtun tribe. Her eyes are closed because she is demonstrating why they believe in using the coal to create eyeliner and eyebrows - for assure growth !
Ellyn Cavanagh (afghan) > My Afghani dinner at a local MD's house. The serious-looking man is the son-in-law, a surgeon working with Red Crescent. Afghanis "look serious" for pictures despite their otherwise congenial spirit !! It was a delicious dinner.
Ellyn Cavanagh (afghan) > Me with my dessert bowl full of fruit. The peaches are extraordinary.
