  • Here is the "lady at the door". Her job is difficult because she allows people in or keeps them out. I get hugs/kisses from her 3 times/day. She's like a grandmother.

  • This is my little friend, Iyarina and her baby sister. Iyarina spends all day/night at the hospital caring for her sibling while her mother cares for an ailing grandmother. She is 10 years old and has just started school (Taliban prohibited her before this). She is beautiful. The baby got scared of the camera, but was smiling before the picture !

  • My Afghani Babies - I wrapped the newborn on the left within 15 minutes of arrival. Parents bring in the "clothes", each is then bundled and wrapped with a belt-type cotton item.

  • Kabul Kids - they live in an area of Kabul that resembles biblical times - homes built into the mountainside, transportation by foot/donkey, no electricity, water by well. Aren't they beautiful ? This was their evening gathering.

  • New mother and her baby (first born). The baby looks like a doll, perfect in every way. Notice the "Afghani Tea" at her head. This tea is great......all moms are given tea by relatives who make it outside in the courtyard and bring it in.
